So I searched for iOS 5 threads but couldn't find any.

Current News:
iOS 5 already jailbroken: apple.mmgn.com/...
All the details of iOS 5 (engadget) www.engadget.com/...

I think it's set to come this Australian spring - I'm not sure though.

It's been confirmed that iOS 5 will support the iPhone 3GS.

It bloody better be coming this Spring, I can't wait much longer! ><

Is iOS 5 seriously not compatible on 3GS? I've got like 6 months left on my contract :(

E: yay @Matteh

Yeah, Apple confirmed it'll be compatible with 3GS, iPhone 4, latest iPod and both iPads. I think that's it. Maybe another iPod in there somewhere but not sure.

Yep, Ipod 3rd Gen will be getting iOS 5. They cut off 2nd gen a while ago. 4th Gen is obviously getting it too. :P

Yeah man my 3GS is so sluggish at times, calls fail a lot, alien noise during calls, cut outs, freezing and unresponsiveness at times.. I was so tempted to get an iPhone 4 today after I found out that they didnt announce a new one, but again, new rumors say otherwise
Matteh
Matteh K:144762 07/06/2011
So is mine. I think it's on it's last legs. It's very slow at times, doesn't get reception always. It's just slowly dying.

Ha, so was I. I decided that I'd get a white iPhone 4 if they didn't announce the iPhone 5 today....but I may just wait.
Psycho42
Psycho42 K:17316 07/06/2011
Ohhk didnt know they'd confirmed that
Ill edit the post in a minute (*)

Yeah, they released iOS 5's developers build or something and the jailbreak teams got their hands on it.
I think with the way it works because it's a bootROM or what I think is a hardware exploit Apple can't patch the tethered jailbreak hole itself but instead just the holes for it to become untethered. Not sure but that's my take on it meaning tjat the limera1n exploit should work for the entire life of my iPod 4 at Least in tethered mode

Wait for it. It'll definitely be announced in the September event, just in time for when iOS 5 rolls out. It'll have the innards of an iPad 2, meaning that it'll pack some serious grunt for ages, and by the looks of things, the screen size might be upped to compete with competition. The next iteration of iPhones and iPods will be worth the wait.
Matteh
Matteh K:144762 07/06/2011
Yeah, I'm probably going to wait it out. It will be hard though, so many people I know have iPhone 4s, and every time I see one, I want one. Sucks! ><

Oh definitely. It'll have an enormous performance boost. Looking forward to that the most. I've noticed that multi-tasking is quite buggy with the 3GS, so it'll be good to have more power.

Wow. It's about time Apple followed Android and did something about those notifications. Also, yet another feature added to iOS that's existed for some time on jailbroken devices. Notifications on the home screen? Come on, Apple, it took you this long to catch on to Cydia devs and finally utilise that damned empty space on the lock screen? :P

Definitely looking forward to this update; the less reason I have to jailbreak, the better. Now all I wanna see is non-static wallpapers. [Derp]

Somehow I feel as though they held out on these things intentionally. Allows their competitors to test how well users will uptake on the features, then when they're proven to not be a financial risk Apple will come along and roll it out themselves.

A unified notification system has been in Android from day one and was praised from the start. To me it seems stupid that Apple took so long to decide to get on the wagon.

If they decide to charge for this update then it all makes sense really. Stave the users of what they actually need to gain better functionality from their phones on release, then make them pay to add that ability in later on. They did it with OS3.

Resolution isn't the be-all-end-all in photography. A lot of the quality of the image comes down to the lens. The iPhone 4 does have an impressive lens, for a phone. Takes nice photos.

The ability of that phone to record video anyone could bare to call decent is a totally different story.

The current version of iOS 5 that's out apparently doesn't support gestures for the first generation of iPad. Gestures are the touch screen controls were you slide a number of fingers to perform certain tasks. If this is true, I'll be sad.
