  • Heading towards digital-focused platforms
  • A continual rise of open platforms

Paradox Interactive CEO, Fredrik Wester, has speculated the death of the game console. Speaking at the Paradox Interactive annual showcase, Wester spoke about his thoughts on the industry, which according to him, would see a rise in digital-focused platforms and distribution.

The next generation of console hardware will probably be the last. I'd be surprised if we see another generation after that." - Fredrik Wester, Paradox Interactive

Along with his dismissal of the console market, Wester predicted a decline of boxed products, a continual rise of open platforms such as PC, mobile and even social networks. It's not easy to make gaming console and build a solid rep if it was so easy company's like acer panasonic toshiba would get in on the action. all i can see is if one of the big 3s gaming console fail they probably wont be in for gen5

As cloud gaming becomes readily available across the globe, we could definitely be facing a different gaming climate. Console gaming will always appeal to the masses though - I don't see it going anywhere anytime soon. However, I can see PC gaming taking the cloud route into living rooms with controllers via OnLive or Steam's aspirations.

Of course he would say that wouldn't he.

Why is "a guy promotes his company at a self thrown promo event" news?

He is lying. Cause he is biased.

There is no truth to his claims.

You can say that all you want but when tens of millions of consoles get sold every year those console manufacturers will still make them... for some mundane reason. Why don't they just cut their profits and just listen to this guy? [monkey]
